“Kestrel”

In this piece, I used the hand-made pigment Rocky Mountain #5 to capture the delicate beauty and subtle power of a single feather. The gentle transitions from soft beige to deep charcoal create a sense of depth, while the light, fluid brushstrokes make the feather appear to float lightly on the canvas. The splatters and drips hint at the unexpected turns life takes, and the way the edges softly blur into the background speaks to strength found in gentle persistence.
